As an experienced singing teacher Elizabeth enjoyed singing from a young age. She was brought up by a father who seemed to sing every day when he was at home.

School Days
Elizabeth was encouraged to sing hymns in Junior school, where she was also introduced to Speech and Drama which sparked of an interest in voice. Senior school encouraged an interest in the spoken word in Debate and Verse Speaking, as well as Singing in the choir and the school folk group.

After school
Elizabeth performed as Mrs Fisher in Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse. In London she played Katherine Winslow in The Winslow Boy by Terrence Rattigan, sang in Cowardly Custard by Alan Strachan, Gerald Frow and Noel Coward.

Classical singing took her from singing chorus in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas Cherubino and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in Liverpool. In London she appeared in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Anna Boleyna. She understudied Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte.

Beginnings of teaching
Elizabeth gained a certificate in Teaching Singing at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Her many experiences in teaching have proved that the most accessible way of nursing a singing talent is for the pupils take part in the National Federation of Festivals. It helps build up self-confidence as well as giving pleasure to their family. Elizabeth’s own experience in Festival work resulted on her singing at weddings and funerals and after dinner singing.

Over her many years of teaching, Elizabeth has learned a great deal from her pupils who in their many individual ways have enriched her teaching, from Beginners to Folk Classical Rock and Music Theatre. They even encouraged her to take a degree in Linguistics at Bangor University North Wales.

She has coached students for auditions for Choral Scholarships to Oxford, Liverpool Philharmonic choir, Conservatoires and Universities as well as local Amateur Operatic Societies. These have always produced a sense of joy and achievement to both teacher and pupil.
